Police report two citizen assaults on Enugu stations during today’s meeting of the State Security Council. Recommends joint patrols.

Two police stations in the Enugu Mettopolis were reportedly attacked by unknown persons within a space of two days,

The invaders allegedly took away weapons from the stations although there were no reports of casualties.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who made these disclosures today, 1 September 2020, sued for calm but vowed to get to the root of it.

Railway Police Station, Ogui was reportedly attacked on 28 August, followed by Unity Police Station Abakpa on 30 August.

The invaders carted away quantities of arms and ammunition, Gov. Ugwuanyi said at the end of a State Security Meeting.

He appealed to those who took the weapons away to hand them in quietly or through a traditional ruler.

The attacks come on the heels of the 23 August clash between IPOB and security agencies at Emene Enugu.

Police said it killed two IPOB youths in a shootout while the youths killed two Department of State operatives.

IPOB spokesperson however claimed that 21 youths were murdered and that no security operative died.

Ugwuanyi today expressed sadness over death of citizens and security operatives during the Emene confrontation.

Security operatives will now do joint patrols, as part of efforts to forestall recurrence, he said.

The Governor said he will be meeting with traditional, religious and other influential leaders on Thursday 3 September.

“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, I am at all times committed, to doing all within my powers, to ensure the security of lives and property in Enugu State,” he said.
