Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, is dead. He passed on today, Saturday 2 March 2024.

Multiple sources confirm that the 62 year old Nkanu, Enugu State born celebrity actor died at a Lagos hospital.

He battled with what he described as “strange and dangerous illness,” that doctors diagnosed as blood clothing from diseased veins.

Ibu endeared himself to audiences for the comedy character roles that he patented and took outside celluloid to guest appearances at social events.

He struggled with health issues since 2023, leading to recently reported amputation of a leg.

In a public appeal for financial support, his relations confirmed the actor’s illness as blood clotting from diseased blood vessels.

It was also reported that his desire to travel abroad for treatment was aborted on his doctor’s advice.

The leg was eventually amputated in November 2023, a prospect he approached with dread.

In a video appeal made from his hospital bed which he shared on Instagram, he lamented the prospect of not having a leg.

“I have been down for so many weeks. All I am hoping for Is your prayers and assistance, as I speak to you.

“I am still lying down at the hospital. The medical director of this hospital said that the best solution is in case his new idea doesn’t work, the best idea is to cut off my leg.”

“Just see me, if they cut off my leg where will I go from here? Please, be in prayers for me, talk to God Almighty, I don’t want my leg to be cut off, please. Thank you so much, God bless.”
