Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide constitutes LOC (Local Organizing Committee) for Igbo Day 2023 taking place in Enugu on 29 September.

The theme of the 2023 Igbo Day celebration, according to the LOC, is “Igbo Kunie”.

“It is a clarion call for the Igbo to arise and fulfill their lofty destiny; a charge for the Igbo to awaken to the philosophy  of Akuluo-uno;  to galvanize Ndigbo towards unity;  to rediscover and embrace our core traditional family values of one in brotherhood; to have a rethink on the security situation in Igbo homeland and a call for Ndigbo to rise to the challenge of self-destruction through the sit-at-home syndrome.”

Significantly, Enugu State Government hosts this year’s event, Ohaneze spokesperson, Dr. Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, said in a statement.

“The choice of Enugu is obvious, says Dr. Ogbonnia who is spokesperson for the association.

“Apart from being the Igbo capital, it offers the required ambience, cultural hospitality, peace and security.”

Enugu equally hosted the previous year’s event, prompting the president of the group to seek to widen its sponsorship from 2024.

Ohanaeze President, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, therefore ruled that 2024 and subsequent hostings will go to the first state that applies to host.

Chief Iwuanyanwu nevertheless praised and thanked Enugu State’s Governor Ndubisi Mbah for this year’s sponsorship.

Subsequent venues for Igbo Day Celebrations will be rotational amongst the Igbo States, he was quoted in the statement.

As he explained, “the 2024 Igbo Day event is open to any state that first indicates insurable interest to host.”

The LOC for Igbo Day 2023 has Prof Fred O. Eze as Chairman with Dr Malachy Chuma Ochie as Secretary.

Other members are Dr. Selina Ugwuoke-Adibuah, Dr Igbonnia himself, Dr Peter Aneke, Mazi Ambrose Obioha, and Mrs Odibeze Amaka  Anajemba.

Ogbonnia said Ohanaeze will soon announce members of the Central Planning Committee (CPC) for the event.
