The remains of Nigerian international and Rangers’ International FC forward, Ifeanyi George Onwubiko, was buried at 10: 30 a.m. yesterday 28 March 2020 at the Atan Cemetery in Yaba, Lagos State.
His family had requested Rangers Management Corporation to move the remains from Abudu to Lagos for burial.
The remains of his car companion in the ill-fated accident, Emmanuel Ogbu, a player in the Rangers feeder team, was transported to his home town, Onitsha Akaeze in Ohaozalla Local Council Area of Ebonyi State, where he was also buried on Thursday.
Only family members and reprsentatives of the Club were allowed to witness both interments.
At the burial in Lagos yesterday, authorities allowed only 10 persons to come to the Cemetery because of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) ravaging the world.
However, a mild drama ensured when one of the proteges of the player gate-crashed into the ceremony and jumped into the grave where he lay flat to weep.
“Ifeanyi George Onwubiko aka ODOGWU, a prolific Striker, good man, team player, selfless attacker and God fearing young man will surely be missed by his immediate family, Rangers Management Corporation, Nigeria Football Federation, his friends and lovers of sports all over the world,” a Club official said.
