About Ike Ogalla

President Bola Tinubu appoints Ike Ogalla and other top military brass as new service chiefs and sacks ex-President Buhari’s appointees.

He named Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, a rear admiral, as the new Chief of Naval Staff today, 19 June 2023.

Tinubu overhauled the entire security high command with appointment of new military, police, and customs chiefs, and the National Security Adviser.

A government statement however stated that the top appointees are to act in the positions until confirmed by the Senate.

They include the Service Chiefs, Police Inspector-General, and the Comptroller General of Customs.

About EI Ogalla

EI Ogalla, Ag. Chief of Naval Staff

Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla (55) comes from Enugu Ezike in Igbo Eze North LGA of Enugu State.

He schooled at Nigeria Military School Zaria and was the best graduating student in the sciences in June 1987, scoring A1 in all subjects except English.

He enrolled in the NDA Regular Course 39 and graduated with a BSc in Math. He was awarded the Sword of Honour as best naval cadet in his course.

 Ogalla got commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1992 and rose steadily through the ranks to become a Rear Admiral in 2021.

In between, he attended other professional courses in India, Command and Staff College, Jaji, and National Defence College. As part of the Course, he took part in the MSc Strategic Studies programme, University of Ibadan from 2014 to 2015.

He served on board many ships – NNS AMBE, ARADU, LANA, EKUN, AGU, QUORRA, BEECROFT, DELTA and PATHFINDER. He also took part in the ECOMOG operations in 1996 aboard NNS EKUN and coordinated anti-bunkering operations in NNS Pathfinder

He and his wife Ijeoma Ogalla are blessed with two children and says his hobbies include jogging, reading, and researching science and nature.
