Mr. Okechukwu Isiguzoro is an imposter who goes about impersonating the secretary-general of Ohanneze Ndigbo, the body warned last night.
Ohanaeze spokesperson, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, issued yet another disclaimer to beg the public to discountenance statements issued by Isiguzoro. Mr. Isiguzoro, “is not and has never been the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,” he said.
“He is both a usurper and an impostor; an interloper who has no authority or mandate to act or speak on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
He identified the secretary general as Ambassador Okey Emuchay, MFR. Ohanaeze elected Emuchary during the 10 January 2021 convention at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, Imo State.
Ogbonnia said that shortly after the election, Chidi Ibeh and Okechukwu Isiguzoro, declared themselves Ohanaeze President and Secretary. They did not participate in the election, he said.
Ohaneze leadership subsequently sued the duo for impersonation, and successfully prosecuted the case at an Enugu High Court.
The court, he said, issued an injunction “restraining them from parading themselves as representatives of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,”
He referred to case number E/878/2022 where Justice Uche Mogbo of Enugu High Court decided on 12 March 2023.
Ogbonna regretted that despite the judgment, Isiguzoro continues to impersonate the office of Ohanaeze Secretary-General.
“He also refused to honour several invitations from security operatives to answer to criminal complaints of impersonation and perjury.”
Appeal to the Media
The Ohanaeze leadership therefore asked the public to discountenance statements from Isiguzoro as they do not represent the position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
“We also appeal to the media to be circumspect in what they publish about Ohanaeze and to seek clearance from Ohanaeze leadership before going public.
Finally, Mr. Ogbonnia asked the members of the public who know the whereabouts of Mr. Isiguzoro to inform the police or report to Ohaneze Secretariat at 7 Park Avenue, GRA Enugu.
“Anyone dealing with Mr. Okechukwu Isiguzoro on issues relating to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide does so at their own risk,” he warned.
