NCDC seeks ways to get results faster to recipeients

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said yesterday that it will use technology to communicate results of tests faster to those who do the tests.

“The major factor driving delay of #COVID19 results isn’t the testing, but the process of getting results to individuals. We’re working on a new platform to improve the system of communicating results” Dr, Chikwe Ihekwazu, NCDC director-general, said.

He said most of the laboratories are working at utmost capacity, making it possible to test over 200,000 cases so far.

The only delay, he said, is when there are issues, such as happened last laboratories could be shut down as happened last week at Ebonyi.

The Ebonyi Laboratory was shut down “for the place to be decontaminated,” he said, an understated way of saying that someone working in the laboratory contracted the virus.
