‘Citizen in US with Covid-19 was not infected in Nigeria’

Health officials in Nigeria said yesterday 8 March 2020 that the Nigerian citizen diagnosed with the deadly Coronavirus in the Washington area of the United States could not have contracted the diseased from his home country prior to his travel.

Director of the National Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Ihekwaba, took to twitter on Sunday morning to dispel the suspicion that the Nigerian citizen may have travelled to the United States with the disease.

His claim follows from discussions and ongoing contacts with officials in Maryland and Washington DC, he said.

“The patient’s travel history shows that the likelihood of his infection while in Nigeria is very low,” he declared.
